The Osaka Fusion House

In the mood for Sushi or Japanese cuisine? My newest favorite place in J-ville is the Osaka Fusion House. Its a relatively new place off of Western. I've been there about three times in the past week. I think its delicious and conveniently placed right outside the Tarawa Terrace II gate next to McDonald's, in the ghetto looking white building. They have a pretty wide variety of sushi and fair menu for the non sushi eaters such as myself.

So far, I've eaten the Edamame, and the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box.  I think its pretty damn good and for a whopping $12 (the bento box) and its a steal.

This is what you get for the $12 Teriyaki Bento Box-you ready for this? 1. Miso soup-pretty good, can't complain with this soup. Good broth and not too much tofu.

 2. Salad with ginger dressing-I love ginger dressing and I can't get over how delicious it tastes. I do think there is a lot of dressing on the salad but I don't really mind as I love it! 3. The Bento box includes, a healthy portion of teriyaki chicken, 3 dumplings, a pile of white rice, two shrimp tempura and three vegetable tempura (might consist of sweet potato, carrot and broccoli). If you leave the table wanting more food, you're crazy. I love that I can't eat all food at one sitting. I love being able to take home the leftovers and although the tempura doesn't really hold up, the teriyaki flavors have time to mix and meld and taste that much better the next day.

My husband and friend have had the Steak Hibachi dinner and are pretty pleased. I guess one can compare it to Shoguns food but here its so much better.

I probably need to eat more than the Teriyaki Bento Box to give a good review but I rely on the truths of my husband and friends.  Two friends of mine have the had the Sex on the beach roll, the Lobster roll, the Philadelphia roll, the California roll, the Volacano roll, and one other one that cannot be pronounced but its fried. Apparently that one is AMAZING! The boys say the rolls are fresh and very well put together and the sushi chef is pretty funny. Nice guy.

The only negative that I can add to this review is the lack of air conditioning. I think the owners take it as a precaution as the restaurant isn't too busy at this time and may not want to waste the money. That is only a speculation on my part.  The Osaka Fusion House offers a 10% military discount as well as a 10% facebook discount (discounts cannot be combined and in order to get the discounts one has to provide military i.d. or a "like" status on the Osaka Fusion House fb page). Oh yeah, my friend Rob says the bathroom is below average. Haven't had the need to use it yet. I'll make sure to check it out myself the next time.

I think the Osaka Fusion House is totally worth a visit. Give it a chance and don't judge from the outside. Go in and enjoy it for what it is. Good food in an unpretentious environment for a great price.

I rate this restaurant an 8 out of 10.

Fun Story

So pretty much the basis of this blog is find fun things to do in Jacksonville and to be a good and honest point of reference. I want to find the hidden gems of Jacksonville...if there are any! How many people are tired of doing the same boring thing or eating at the same boring restaurants? Sure the Olive Garden is good, but don't you just want some real Italian food without having to drive the 1,000 miles to Wilmington? I know Wilmington isn't that far away but I hate driving an hour + just to eat.

Being that Jacksonville isn't that big of a town, I'll sometimes have to deviate from my main focus. Sometimes I might write about moms-the good and the bad, sometimes I might tell stories about wives, maybe I'll write about anything that pops in my head. Who knows. I do however have one story about a 20 something's goal to hit up my friend "Bob" who is currently staying with my husband and I while he awaits a house. So here it is...

I think it was Saturday night. I just got home from 2 weeks of visiting my family and Bob had just come back to the house after spending time with his wife back in their home state (side note, Bob's wife is at home finishing her degree and waiting for their new house).  In our neighborhood we kind of live in a party cul de sac and we're the only ones above the age of 25...So parties are always happening and the police have been on our street a couple times already, so when a girl knocks on my door at 10:30pm Bob and I immediately think the worst. Who in their right mind would knock on someones door at that time of night?

A girl is at the door and Bob answers. She tells him there is a note on his car (he has an expensive car and it is his life) so Bob and I run outside thinking the party boys hit his car or did something of that nature...Bob comes back to the house laughing. I'm thinking "oh no, Bob is going to lose it, someone is going to get hit, what the hell happened?" So here is what the note said word for word. No I didn't make this up but I did take out her phone number.

" Ok. So i'm single. I'm bored and figured what the hell i will give this a shot. Hope i just don't look like an ass lol. Anyway i've seen you around i don't live here but i'm housesitting my sisters house. so i guess if you are single & interested in chatting you can text me. XXX-XXX-XXXX sorry its sloppy, just put lotion on hahaha. Anyway there it is. "

I read that and I went into some serious giggles. Who does this? Who writes a note on someones car then knocks on his door to tell him of the note? Why didn't she add "Will you hang with me? Circle yes or no" Also, if someone is going to take the time to write a note at least limit the grammatical errors! The story gets a little better...

11:00pm rolls around. Bob has gone to his room and I'm locking the house up. 11:00pm on a Saturday and going to bed, I know, I'm lame. 11:00pm and there's a knock on my door. The young 20 something girl has come back to my house to confirm the receipt of the note. I have of concern on my face because I can't believe she's come back to talk to Bob. She asks if he's around and I told her he went to bed. I ask if she wants to leave a message for him and she says no then walks home looking slightly defeated.

Was she honestly thinking that Bob would talk with her after leaving the note? Does she think this is the best way to get a man? Maybe it is, but not a nice man, one who won't chop her up into little bits and feed her to alligators. Is this way dating goes down  now? Do girls not watch Sex and the City? Besides being shocked, I was amazed at her ability to not be embarrassed after leaving the note and coming to my house. Also, how did she know that Bob wasn't my husband? She must have staked out my house for sometime to know that Bob wasn't my husband. I wonder how long she's been watching Bob. Kind of creepy and I kind of applaud her for her actions. Is that bad?

I want to leave a note on her door telling her that I can teach her how to pick up decent men in this town if she wanted. This happened a week ago and I'm still amazed. I do however think that she has moved on from Bob though. Don't worry about Bob, he isn't heartbroken.

Hair today, gone tomorrow!

So its the summer time and trying to maintain the "landscape" can be an annoying task. I am happy to have found a great place in Jacksonville that will take care of all sorts of body landscaping as well skin care.

Just Relax Salon is an awesomely small, relaxing and quaint salon for all of your waxing and facial needs. Lourena (the owner) is a wonderful lady who does amazing work and who makes you fee comfortable the minute you walk through the door. I've gone to her for brazillan waxing, eyebrow waxing and tinting. If I wanted to get a facial I wouldn't look anywhere else. Lourena does skin detox, rejuvinating facials, and peels and masks. She also works on men!

I know thinking about getting a wax "down there" can be a scary thought, but its totally worth it, especially in the summer. Its so nice to not worry about shaving the bikini line everyday or everyother day, and you don't have to deal with awful regrowth or ingrown hair.

Lourena is competviely priced, offers high end experiences and is extremely profession (in a good way). It takes a special kind of person to do what she does and I love her for it. She is great! I like how she'll talk with and show a GENUINE interest. I don't feel like she is making small talk. She is the type of lady that I know I could hang out with. She is easy going. She is funny! I cannot stress it enough but she makes her clients feel COMFORTABLE.

I've been to a few waxers in my lifetime so I have a fair amount of experience. When I lived in D.C.  I had my staple waxer. This woman, could wax you in less than three minutes, but that was the most painful three minutes ever. She never talked, never really made eye contact and she pretty much shouted at you to turn over of lift your leg or whatever. I kept going to her because she was cheap. I find my experience with Lourena infinitly better. I can actually hold a conversation with her the whole time I'm there and its nice.

I've found with any appointment with Lourena I'll be there at least a half hour to forty five minutes. Its time well spent because she takes pride in her work and won't let you leave until you're both satisfied with the apointment.

Did I mention that I like her website too? Its easy to read, no extra information, just basic info on what she does, how much she charges, and she has cute names for the type of waxing someone may want.

I urge you to check her out. Give her a chance. If your husband is coming home from deployment or you just want to try something different give her a call!
